Decades ago, being a freelance writer meant working as a free agent in a particular genre of writing. A freelance writer may have worked as a sub-contractor for newspapers, magazines, or another, rather specific, field. Today's freelance writing is far removed from that of the past. We're still free agents, or sub-contractors, if you will, but we're actually required to produce a somewhat different product than we once were.
