Robert Louis Stevenson got the idea for his novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde during a terrible nightmare, from which he awoke and scribbled the few scenes he could remember. Unable to return to sleep, Stevenson feverishly set down a first version of his now famed story. We say first version because the one we read now is the second, cleaned-up version!
